Weekend update

This past weekend, we went for another basket bike ride. We decided to extend our typical Esplanade trip down a little further, over to Cambridge, and then back again. Parts of the bike ride were just beautiful- like the area surrounding the BU boathouse where the path becomes a deserted boardwalk underneath an unused railway bridge. Other parts of the path were downright treacherous with major cracks in the asphalt and narrow, winding paths for both bikers and pedestrians- not to mention the frequent intersections with busy traffic. This was true especially on the Cambridge side of the river.

Harry didn't seem to mind the adventure. We rode in the bike lane down the Mass Ave bridge and that was the first time during the entire ride he sat up straight, facing ahead, ears flapping in the wind. He was quite the sight, as I could see the faces of the pedestrians on the bridge smiling and pointing as we peddled by.

On Saturday evening, we ventured to the West End dog run, as it was a beautiful, cool, summer evening. Harry is typically the only dog in the run, as I've reported before.  However, shortly after we arrived at the park this time, a young puppy named Luxy showed up.   They started out quite cordially with concurrent sniffing. However, as Harry was eager to return to his game of fetch, she would not allow for it. We tossed the ball, he ran after it, and Luxy would follow in aggressive pursuit. Harry, not sure what to make of this, instantaneously dropped the ball, and ran back with his tail tucked. She followed in very closely, barking and sniffing- a little too close for comfort, I could tell. Harry was a polite gentleman and not once let out a disgruntled gruff, but just attempted to fetch each time, and each time failing to retrieve the ball.

As soon as she left, he was more than content to continue fetching his beloved red ball.
